Montz Matsumoto & The Vagabonds

Born in a small village in Japan and started to learn Bluegrass banjo from the age of 15.
1987 Joined the legendary Japanese folk group The Natarshar Seven.
1992 Studied Carnatic (South Indian Classical music) rhythm theory and singing at Chennai, India
1996 1st album ‘Forgotten Scent’
1997 Joined Peter Rowan’s tour in Okinawa, Japan.
2002 Moved to Australia
2003 Won 1st Prize for musicianship at Francis Folk Gathering
2006 -2015 attended Tamworth Country Music Festival every year, performing at Andrew Clermont’s Supper Club, Pete Denahy’s Bluegrass Breakfast Show and The Pigs’ shows.
2007 2nd album ‘Banjo Moon” nominated for album of the year by South Australia Folk Federation
2008 2nd at Tamworth Bluegrass Banjo Championship
Touring regularly with Sydney based “Hillbilly Pop” band ‘The Pigs’ performing at many festivals including Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Gympie Muster and the Blue Mountains Music Festival.
Touring regularly with Pete Denahy.
Leading Tasmania based Alternative Bluegrass Band “Voicestrings”, performing at MONA museum, Cygnet Folk Festival.
Recording artist for various musicians including John Williamson and The Borderers.
