Day One - Friday
- Catch the train from Melbourne. Choose an early departure and short afternoon ride or noon departure and late afternoon pick up from Wangaratta. Click here for the latest vline timetable.
- A short 45 minute bus ride takes us to your first night accommodation at The Tanswell Commercial Hotel in Beechworth. After checking in we have time for a tour of the renound Beechworth Bridge Road Brewery before dinner. Check out their award winning range of craft brewed beers at www.bridgeroadbrewers.com.au
- Dinner is provided at the atmospheric Tanswell Commercial Hotel.
Day Two - Saturday
- We breakfast at the famous Beechworth Brewery. Fresh Coffee and bakery goodies are a great way to start the day.
- This morning we have a picturesque ride from Beechworth down to Gapstead in the Ovens valley. A great introduction to the area most riders are very happy that this first stretch is mainly downhill so the 34km is easliy covered in a couple of hours.
- We break for lunch at Victorian Alps Winery where you have the chance to sample some of the regions finest wines and local produce. See www.victorianalpswinery.com.au for more information about their extensive range of wines.
- After lunch we cruise through Myrtleford and continue along the ovens valley to Bright. The views of Mt Buffalo along this stretch are fantastic as we pass Hop farms and several wineries. Choose to take your time and stop at Boyntons or Ringer Reef or forge ahead the next 38km to Bright to sample some local beers at the Bright Brewery. This stretch is flat and can be easily acomplished by an average rider in two hours however if you are feeling weary or are more inclined to enjoy a few more wines feel free to board the bus for a more leisurely journey.
- The bus picks up the group at Bright for a short trip to our accommodation for the night in the mountain village of Harrietville.
- After checking in you can enjoy a drink on the deck of the historic Snowline Hotel with magestic views of the Alpine National Park.
- Two course dinner is provided by the Snowline Hotel where the kitchen prides itself on serving the finest pub food in the North East.
Day Three - Sunday
- A day free to explore the local area. Harrietville is an alpine valley paradise in the summer. The crystal clear upper branches of the Ovens River and two lakes formed by gold dredging provide great opportunities for swimming and relaxing. Try some of the local mountainbike tracks, hike up Mt Feathertop or take a short trip to the trout farm to catch some lunch.
- Our bus departs Harrietville at 3:30pm to connect with the afternoon train back to Melbourne from Wangaratta.
